Dear Linda
|
It's officially autumn now... and there's lots going on. The twelve weeks of Christmas will be starting TOMORROW, so watch your email inboxes! For those newer to my mailing list, the 12 weeks of Christmas is a weekly mail out of holiday ideas, counting down the time until it's Christmas! We'll be starting with cards, so you can get ideas for your own Christmas mailings.
If you'd like more inspiration, be sure to sign up for the stamp-a-stack happening this Saturday (there's still time...), or register for my November card class - we'll be featuring holiday cards, in time for the international mail out...(well, close enough, I think). Need more help? I've got some Christmas card clinics happening mid-November - a chance for you to come on over and work on your holiday cards. Watch my blog at www.yamstamps.com for more details & registration information.
It's your last chance to start your business off with a bang...the Stampin' Up! starter kit special is on until October 11th. I'm having an information evening on October 8th from 7-8 pm. RSVP, come on over and have a cup of tea while we chat about what is involved in being a Stampin' Up! demonstrator. Your RSVP is not considered your commitment to sign up - just your commitment to come that evening!!

| Project of the Month |
|
How cute is this?? I've done something similar in the past - but the addition of the ribbon & leaves make it much more "pumpkin" like!
Stamps: With Gratitude, Contempo Alphabet
Paper: Old Olive, Very Vanilla & Pumpkin Pie cardstocks Ink: Old Olive, Pumpkin Pie (refill), Basic Gray, stampin' around cartridge
Accessories: stampin' around handle, scissors, paper snips, glue dots - mini and pop up, linene thread, metallic eyelets, crop-a-dile, old olive grosgrain ribbon (5/8"), Bella's Border wheel
Instructions 1. Cut two sheets of Pumpkin Pie card stock (8-1/2" x 11") into 1" wide strips. Wheel Bella's Border in Pumpkin Pie ink on Pumpkin Pie card stock strips. Punch hole through top and bottom of strips using Crop-A-Dile. Knot bottom of Old Olive 1/4" grosgrain ribbon (4") and thread through holes; knot top of ribbon and spread strips of card stock to create pumpkin shape. 2. Tie Old Olive 5/8" grosgrain ribbon (24") in a bow; adhere bow to top of pumpkin. 3. Stamp leaf image twice in Old Olive ink on Old Olive card stock (6" x 6"); cut out. Adhere one leaf to top of pumpkin. 4. Stamp name in Old Olive ink and "With gratitude" in Basic Gray ink on Very Vanilla card stock (4" x 1-1/2"). Punch left corners using Tag Corner punch. Attach Silver eyelet to tag using Crop-A-Dile. Adhere second leaf to tag; adhere tag to pumpkin using Stampin' Dimensionals. Thread linen thread through eyelet and tie to bow.
This would make a great place setting for your Thanksgiving Dinner or a non-sugary treat for those trick or treaters (OK, so maybe you could tie on a candy to make it more appealing to them....) |
| Product Q&A - Crystal Effects |
Crystal Effects is a fantastic liquid product offered by Stampin' Up!, but I'm often asked "What is it used for?"
1) An Adhesive - a clear strong adhesive, great for adhering accents to your card or page. You can also re-adhere the rubber portion of a stamp if you've been a little agressive when cleaning it!!
2) To add shine & dimension to your images or letters. For example, it can be used to make your fruit shiny or add a glistening effect to water or glass.
3) As a 3D accent. One of my favourite effects - creating icicles! Draw your icicles with crystal effects, add a little glitter to make them extra "wow" and let dry! If you create your icicles on waxed paper, you can gently lift them off and apply to whatever project you'd like!! HOME DECOR: add drops of CE to dried flowers or plants to simulate dew drops!
4) To make faux brads. Use your small circular punches with designer series paper or a small image, top with a coating of crystal effects & let dry. You can use CE instead of the domes that come with your build-a-brads if you like.
5) To add colour & shine. Mix crystal effects with a drop of reinker and use to add colour & shine to your project!
6) As a sealer. Use a coat of crystal effects to "seal" those beaded pens or stamped tiles or dominos.
Words of caution:
1) May take an hour (plus) to dry...so not for the impatient!
2) DO NOT SHAKE the bottle - it creates bubbles in the liquid that ruin the "glassy" look you can otherwise achieve. (unless you want that effect I guess!!) If you do happen to shake the bottle, try leaving it for a few minutes upside down (CAP ON) to allow the bubbles to move away from the tip...
3) The bottle clogs easily due to the nature of the product. A few options - with the cap on tightly, store upside down (obviously there could be a leakage issue if the cap's not on correctly...) or keep a needle close by to reopen the clogged tip as needed.
4) If you're wanting a thick layer, you may find more success in applying many thinner layers rather than one really thick layer. |
| Spooky Spider |

| Contest Winners! |
|
Congrats to Nancy Rumph & Susan Finlay, winners of a scallop edge punch at 50% off!! According to my count, there are 59 pages without a trace of scallop - that would be a sample with a scallop, or a scallop design somewhere in the printing...
|
As always, if I can be of any assistance, please don't hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
Linda
