Linda Yamamoto, Independent
Stampin' Up! Demonstrator
Dear Linda
Where has the time gone?  We're already at week 6 of the 12 weeks of Christmas ideas - which will be posted to your inbox tomorrow.

I've also been advised that it's National Blog Posting Month (seriously, I don't make this stuff up....) so I'm going to honour it (even though I just found out about it) by trying to post to my blog at www.yamstamps.com everyday until the end of the month.  We'll see how I do!  So what does that mean for you?  Well - lots of new samples and articles at the blog - so check it often or sign up for the "feed" - you'll automatically get emails or notification when I update the blog (depending on which method you choose).  In the latest version of Internet Explorer, you can have a "feeds" list for blogs - I have a whole bunch that I'm keeping my eye on!

My November calendar is pretty busy, and I've just added in a new class - see below.  If your calendar's getting busy too, don't forget you can shop for stamping supplies & gifts 24/7 at www.yamstamps.stampinup.net!!

Stamping - It's a Dirty Job...

but someone's got to do it....   and then we've got to clean up!  Here are a few cleaning tips for some of your stamping & crafting messes.

Cleaning Stamps

Well, ummm, this is a pretty easy one - the Stampin' Scrub & Stampin' Mist combo is the cheapest washer/dryer you'll ever find!  After stamping, you can stamp off excess ink onto scrap paper (I especially like to do this if I've been using craft or Encore metallic inks), then spritz some mist on one side of the scrub.  Gently rub your stamp on the wet side of the scrub, then repeat on the dry side of the scrub - voila!  Note that the smaller the stamp, the less rubbing force required....  This also works to clean the plastic mat for the Stamp-a-ma-Jig.

For those stamps stained by Staz-On or the "basic" Stampin' Up! inks (e.g. Basic Black, Basic Brown...) - Staz-On Cleaner  is amazing!  Simply rub the foam applicator tip over the stamp and watch those stains melt away.  I usually use the stampin' scrub afterwards to remove excess residue plus condition the stamp.

NOW - to clean your Stampin' Scrub - I pop out the fuzzy mats and hold them under the tap, rubbing with my hand.  Usually the residual stampin' mist will foam up a bit (well, especially if you wait as long as I do sometimes to clean them....) or you can add a bit of handsoap or dishsoap, whatever's convenient.  Rinse well, and remove the excess water as best as you can.  To dry them, stand the pads on a paper towel in the dish rack or propped against something.  I recommend the paper towel as I'm often shocked at the colour of the water that drains off still....  I have heard that some people will actually throw them in the top rack of their dishwasher on a quick cycle.  I haven't actually done this (given that my dishwasher is usually full!!) and I would caution that you NOT use the heat boost or drying cycle if you do try it!!

Cleaning Your Blender Pen
Blender pens are great for adding a colour to images with the stampin' pastels, watercolour pencils or watercolour crayons, or classic ink!  You get 3 double tipped pens in each pack, but you won't need to have a pen for each colour.  To clean your blender pen, simply scribble on a scrap piece of paper until no colour comes off the tip.  Note that the tip may still appear "stained" but as long as the blender fluid is coming out clear, the tip is clean and ready for the next application!

Cleaning Gooey Snips

Those craft & rubber scissors of mine get gummed up but good with adhesive residue.  Actually, so do my paper snips....  Anyway - to clean the blades easily, I just use a cotton pad soaked in some nail polish remover - removes all the gooeys easily!  It's amazing how well clean scissors will cut....

Containing Glitter

I honestly don't think there's a surefire way of this!!  I love to use glitter, but it gets EVERYWHERE!  By using my Powder Pal trays, I can dump excess glitter onto the tray and then use the brush to help coax it back into the bottle.  You definitely need to use the brush if you are using the cosmo fine glitter because it's so....fine...  You get two Powder Pal trays in each pack, so you can choose the size appropriate for your project (or you can have a spare for those times you forget to finish cleaning up the one tray).  (I speak from experience...)  Reusable is environmentally friendly, but if you are in a pinch and forgot your trays....the ruffly coffee filters can work in a similar way.

Cleaning the Powder Pal Trays

I use dry Swiffer pads or a rag to clean out my Powder Pal trays occasionally, to ensure all those stray bits are not hanging around.  Don't forget to clean out the neck of the tray (the little chute) too!  I find my trays sometimes seem a bit "staticky" - so after cleaning the tray, I have used my Embossing Buddy (the powder filled pillow) to try to cut down on this before my next project.

Cleaning Your Stamping / Scrapping Area

Well - that's one's up to you!!! LOL.  I'm definitely the last person to give good advice here....my area definitely looks like a whirlwind has been through after I'm done creating.  Luckily, there's a door that I can close!!

Have a good tip or a burning question?  Email me - and if I use it in a future newsletter or blog post, you'll get a certificate worth $5 towards a class fee or merchandise through me!!
