November

From Linda Yamamoto

Independent Stampin' Up! Demonstrator

Dear Linda,
Welcome to the November version of Linda's Link.  I often find November to be a month where we're busy looking ahead to Christmas or looking back at Hallowe'en or Thanksgiving.  Hopefully we'll also be able to enjoy THIS month and "be in the moment", as they say.  Of course, we also will take a moment to remember all the vets on November 11th as well.

For all the latest news, be sure to check my blog at
www.yamstamps.com, "like" my facebook page and follow me on twitter!

Linda's Holiday Wish List Service is Here!
Did you know that anti-clutter types advocate WISH LISTS as an organized and clutter-free holiday tool?  Help your loved ones out - create a Stampin' Up! wish list so they can shop easily and efficiently for you this holiday season.  It's as easy as 1-2-3!

1) Contact me for a copy of the wish list
2) Fill out the wish list using the current Stampin' Up! catalogues
3) Return it to me by November 25th.

That's it!!! Well at least for you...LOL.  In the meantime, I will contact the gift givers you identify, and assist them in their shopping (heck, I'll even gift wrap if they need help with that!!).
November Card Idea

This cute Love Note sized card features a fun technique that will have you thrilled with its thriftiness. Try it with different scraps of Designer Series Paper, different Embosslit Dies or one of our Textured Impressions embossing folders.

SUPPLIES:

CARD STOCK: Crumb Cake (120953), Cherry Cobbler (119685)

PAPER: Deck The Halls Designer Series Paper (120810)

TOOLS: Big Shot Die-Cutting Machine (113439), Thanks Embosslits die (115957), Paper-Piercing Tool(116631), Mat Pack (105826), Sanding Block (103301), Mini Glue Dots (103683)

ACCESSORIES: Designer Buttons-Neutrals (119743), Stampin' Dimensionals (104430)

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Cut Crumb Cake card stock to 3" x 6", score at 3" and fold in half to create 3" x 3" card base.

2. Cut Cherry Cobbler to 2-1/2" x 2-1/2". Using paper-piercing tool and mat pack template, paper-pierce a border along all four edges of Cherry Cobbler. Attach to card base using Stampin' Dimensionals.

3. Insert a scrap of Designer Series Paper (approx. 2-1/4" x 2-1/2") into embosslit and run through Big Shot.

4. Using a sanding block, lightly sand over the embossed image using a circular motion. (The paper has a white core, which you will begin to see as you sand.) Sand gently just until the embossed image is white.

5. Attach to centre of card front using Stampin' Dimensionals.

6. Cut a very small sliver of Cherry Cobbler card stock about one inch long. "Thread" the card stock through the button holes to create faux thread. Turn button over to the back and fold ends of "thread" outward and place a mini glue dot in the center of the button, securing "thread". Snip excess "thread" ends.

7. Attach button to card using a tiny piece of Stampin' Dimensionals for added height.

November Project
Hallowe'en votive cover

Thinking ahead...this is a fun project - create your own little forest of trees to decorate your mantel or your dinner table!  See the Tool Time for hints on using the Circle Scissor Plus.

Supplies

Paper: Deck the Halls Designer Series Paper #120810, Brushed Silver Card Stock #100712

Accessories: Circle Scissor Plus #112530, Glass Cutting Mat #112531, Silver Glass Glitter #120995, Multipurpose Liquid Glue #110755, Basic Rhinestone Jewels #119246, Bone Folder #102300

Other: Wooden Dowel, Styrofoam base, card stock or other material of your choice to cover dowel stick and base

Instructions

· Cut five circles from designer series paper (or card stock, if you prefer) using Circle Scissor Plus. Start with the largest circle to space appropriately on your paper. The circle sizes are 2", 3", 4", 5" and 6".

· Fold each circle in half, in half again, and in half again. Use your Bone Folder for each crease. If you can fold your circles with even more creases (opening and refolding in half each time), you will get a tighter look.

· Punch a small hole in the center of each circle.

· If desired, colour or cover the dowel with a strip of card stock.

· Slide each circle onto the dowel, spacing as desired, and adhere with Multipurpose Liquid Glue

· Pinch the creases so it will look like a tree.

· Decorate with Multipurpose Liquid Glue and Glass Glitter for a garland, add Rhinestones here and there, and place a silver card stock star on top.

· Insert dowel into styrofoam base; cover base as desired (cotton batting, cardstock, designer series paper...)  Enjoy!

Tool Time:  Circle Scissor Plus

This is an all-in-one tool to cut circles any size from 1" to 6", and I find it absolutely indispensible for layering on cards or scrapbook pages. Here are some hints that will help you to love using the Circle Scissor Plus, and its partner, the glass cutting mat.
     Circle Scissor Plus #112530
     Glass Mat #112531

1. You can use Dotto temporary adhesive #103305 on the Glass Mat to hold the paper in place. Run your hand over the paper to make sure it is in contact with the adhesive.
2. Don't waste your paper! Place your cardstock on the Glass Mat with the Circle Scissor Plus blade located at one corner of the paper. Remove the blade holder, place your finger in the hole and swivel the wheel to make sure your circle will not go off the sheet. (see image above) If all is well, insert the blade into the holder and cut.
3. Don't overdo it!  Use gentle but firm pressure to allow the blade to turn easily.  You may want to go around the circle twice to be sure you've got a clean cut.
4. It will take a few cuts to get comfortable with the system at first so use scrap paper to practice.
5. You can also use the Circle Scissor Plus to draw circles with pencils, pens, or our Stampin' Up Markers.
6. Always cut using a glass mat as the plastic/rubber self healing mats do not work properly with this tool.

Tomorrow brings another of the 12 Weeks of Christmas to your email inbox.

Hope to see you at an event soon - until then, Happy Crafting!!
